Coronation

“A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.” Revelation 12:1
My interpretation of this Scripture passage required a great deal of thought. I envisioned Mary clothed in the sun’s golden color, with the clouds representative of the ground below. Feeling Mary would be too humble to have a crown of glittering jewels on her head, her crown from Christ became the stars in the heaven’s above. I painted her wearing the blue color which we are accustomed to seeing, which represents the moon, and the green and pink colors are representative of the stem and petals of a rose. Mary’s Jewish origin in the portrait is evident.
